From Alamo Drafthouse to Metro Cinema: A Founder's Journey
A fireside chat with Tim League
Tim League founded Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and led it as CEO for years. The chain changed moviegoing by pairing repertory programming and special events with in-theater dining, bars, and from-scratch kitchens. Under his leadership, Alamo was named "Coolest Movie Theater in the World" by Wired, "Best Theater in America" by Entertainment Weekly, and "Best Theater Ever" by Time.
He has kept building ever since. He co-founded NEON (the distributor behind ANORA, PARASITE, I, TONYA, and LONGLEGS), Mondo, Mutant, Fantastic Fest, and the American Genre Film Archive. Today he is founder and CEO of Metro Cinema, a private cinema concept that opened in Manhattan in fall 2025.
In this session, Tim walks through the Alamo Drafthouse story and his CEO journey, then takes live Q&A from members.
What we'll cover:
Building a category-defining consumer brand in a legacy industry
The CEO journey: scaling the company, and what it taught him
Building again: NEON, Mondo, Fantastic Fest, and now Metro Cinema
