Why You Feel Busy – but Aren’t Growing (and What to Do About It) with Thomas Fafinski of EPiC Peer Groups
Running a successful estate planning law firm requires more than legal expertise.
It demands leadership, operational clarity, strategic decision-making, and the ability to grow sustainably in an increasingly competitive market.
Yet many firm owners find themselves trapped in the same cycle: overwhelmed by day-to-day demands, isolated in decision-making, and unsure how to scale without sacrificing profitability or quality of life.
What if growth didn’t have to come from trial and error alone?
What if the fastest path forward came from surrounding yourself with peers facing the same challenges—and solving them together?
In this insightful and practical session, Thomas Fafinski will share how structured peer collaboration can transform the way law firm owners operate, lead, and grow.
Drawing from years of experience building businesses, scaling a law practice, and facilitating high-performing peer groups across the country, Tom will explore the systems, conversations, and accountability frameworks that help firms move from reactive to intentional growth.
This engaging session will explore how to:
📈 Build systems that create scalable and sustainable firm growth
🤝 Use peer accountability to improve decision-making and execution
🧠 Identify operational blind spots that limit profitability and performance

About Thomas Fafinski
Thomas Fafinski is the cofounder of EPiC Peer Groups and Virtus Law PLLC, an eight-attorney Minneapolis law firm serving moderate to high net worth clients in estate planning, with a niche focus in the technology industry.
After experiencing firsthand the impact of peer collaboration in his own entrepreneurial journey, Tom cofounded EPiC Peer Groups to bring that same level of insight, accountability, and strategic support to estate planning law firm owners. What began as a beta program within WealthCounsel evolved into a national peer network officially branded as EPiC in 2020.
Today, EPiC facilitates structured peer groups designed to help law firm owners grow intentionally through facilitator-led discussions, performance benchmarking, and shared learning. Tom works closely with members to navigate operational challenges, implement systems, and make better long-term business decisions.
The results speak to the effectiveness of this approach. Between 2020 and 2025, EPiC members reported average annual revenue growth of 186% and average annual profit growth of 634%, demonstrating the impact of consistent collaboration and accountability.
In addition to his work with EPiC, Tom remains active with Virtus Law as an attorney and entrepreneur. Having built, scaled, and sold his own law practice, he brings a practical and experience-driven perspective to law firm leadership and growth.
Tom is also a frequent national speaker and author, recognized for his clear, actionable insights on building and operating a modern estate planning practice.
