​Every year, thousands of volunteers across the five boroughs participate in NYC’s annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE). Over a single day, volunteers canvass streets, subway stations, parks, and other public spaces across the city to identify individuals living unsheltered.

• ​If you can attend HOPE 2026 on March 10, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM, please re-register at nyc.gov/hope.

​This is an annual survey that estimates the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in New York City.

​The HOPE count provides critical data that helps shape how the City directs resources to address homelessness.
