Welcome and welcome back! We are so excited that the last few socials were sold out AND we had a waitlist AND ran late into the night! Last time the final pour landed somewhere around 2am! Thank you to everyone who's come out, you've all made it truly a wonderful time.
We're back at the New York Tea Society studio in Koreatown. NYTS, founded by Roy Lamberty, is a nonprofit devoted to exploring, preserving, and celebrating the culture of tea. If you want to see what they're about: newyorkteasociety.com or @newyorkteasociety
The shape of it: an evening of gongfu-style tea. Lots of little cups, 25-ish people, snacks. Doors open around 7, and if the vibe's good, we'll hang out all night.
Gongfu style brewing is brewing tea in small vessels with short infusions, multiple times. You get a bunch of pours out of the same leaves and the flavor shifts as the evening goes on. It's a fun way to drink tea and a good excuse to sit around and talk.
Roy's teas are on hand. Past rounds have gone from pu'erh to Vietnamese teas from trees hundreds of years old to Taiwanese high mountain oolong and more. Name a tea you've been curious about when you register and we'll try to have it available next time.
Bring yourself. Bring some porcelain if you've got your own. Bring a tea if there's one you want to share. Snacks are welcome in the studio, just not at the main gongfu tea table.
