AI and Education Certainties, Unknowns and Futures
IMPORTANT NOTICE: This event has been cancelled due to an unexpected change in our panel lineup, which means we’re no longer able to run the event to the standard we had planned.
We hope to be able to reschedule in the future. Please keep your eye out for updates.
Fears of academic misconduct may have started the conversation on AI, but now – four years after the release of ChatGPT – we know this barely scratches the surface. While we know the more young people interact with AI, the more it shapes how they think, learn (or not), and behave, we are yet to determine what this all means for the future of education.
For one evening, beyond the hype in the headlines, our panel are in the same room to speak candidly about what we know for certain, what we don't, and what we cannot afford to ignore.
As AI changes how students learn, what is the future of thinking?
What forms of human capability become more important, not less?
When students turn first to machines, what happens to trust, judgement, and agency?
What kinds of futures should education now prepare young people to shape?
In an age of intelligent machines, what is education actually for?
Join us for an evening of frank conversation on AI and Education, featuring:
Professor Barbara Wasson, Director of SLATE, University of Bergen
James Donovan, Head of Learning and Cognitive Outcomes, OpenAI
Ros McNeil, Assistant General Secretary, National Education Union (NEU)
Chaired by Professor Ann Kristin Glenster, LOGOS, University of Cambridge,
with opening insights from Megan Ennion, PhD researcher, Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge.
This University of Cambridge event is hosted by the AI and Education Community, Faculty of Education and LOGOS, Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH). It is supported by the Accelerate Programme for Scientific Discovery.
