After the Sale: Tax, Exchange, and Capital Planning for CRE Owners
You are personally invited to After the Sale, a session in our Family-Owned Commercial Real Estate Learning Series.
Once escrow closes, a seller faces a different set of decisions: pay the tax, defer it, or move into a passive structure. Each path carries tradeoffs that are easier to weigh before closing than after.
This session is a moderated panel rather than a presentation. A wealth advisor, a real estate CPA, a 1031 exchange specialist, and a DST specialist work through those choices together, which means you hear where experienced advisors agree and where they don't.
What the panel covers:
Paying the capital gains tax versus deferring it, and how to compare the two honestly
The traditional 1031 exchange: identification timelines, replacement property, and common failure points
Delaware Statutory Trusts and 721 exchanges as passive alternatives
How the proceeds fit into the broader family wealth and estate plan
Coordinating the CPA, the exchange accommodator, and the wealth advisor before close
Case studies of sellers who chose each path
Who should attend. Owners who have sold, are under contract, or expect to sell within two years, along with the CPAs, attorneys, and wealth advisors who serve them.
Questions are welcome throughout. This is not a networking or referral event, and attendees will not be solicited.
Moderated by Glenn Arnold, SIOR, Voit Real Estate Services. Panelists to be announced.
