​Join us for an in-person conversation and lunch with journalist Theo Baker on his new book, How to Rule the World—named a book “everyone will be talking about” by The New York Times.

​Theo will be in conversation with Roy Bahat of Bloomberg Beta.

​In How to Rule the World, Theo takes us inside Silicon Valley’s training ground for the next generation of elites. What begins as a freshman’s arrival at Stanford quickly turns into a deeper investigation of a system defined by ambition, access, and excess—where future founders are courted with “pre-idea” funding, secret societies, and direct lines to billionaires. Power sometimes operates quietly.

​At the center of the story is Theo’s own journey. As a first-year student journalist, he uncovered allegations of research misconduct tied to Stanford’s president, setting off an investigation that ultimately led to the president’s resignation. Along the way: anonymous tips, legal threats, and a firsthand look at how institutions respond when someone challenges them.
