How to Rule the World: Theo Baker pre-release book lunch
Join us for an in-person conversation and lunch with journalist Theo Baker on his new book, How to Rule the World—named a book “everyone will be talking about” by The New York Times.
Theo will be in conversation with Roy Bahat of Bloomberg Beta.
In How to Rule the World, Theo takes us inside Silicon Valley’s training ground for the next generation of elites. What begins as a freshman’s arrival at Stanford quickly turns into a deeper investigation of a system defined by ambition, access, and excess—where future founders are courted with “pre-idea” funding, secret societies, and direct lines to billionaires. Power sometimes operates quietly.
At the center of the story is Theo’s own journey. As a first-year student journalist, he uncovered allegations of research misconduct tied to Stanford’s president, setting off an investigation that ultimately led to the president’s resignation. Along the way: anonymous tips, legal threats, and a firsthand look at how institutions respond when someone challenges them.
📚 We’re pleased to give attendees copies of the book before the book officially comes out the week after our event.
