Designing a Bridge: The "TasukeAi"
Last month we put two ideas on the table — a community-first app and a mutual aid program called TasukeAi. The room responded, pressure-tested both, and the takeaway was clear: it's time to move from talking to doing. Event #7 is where TasukeAi takes shape.
TasukeAi brings international community members and locals together on real-world field trips to help socially driven local businesses better connect with the people around them — international travellers, local residents, and everyone in between. Not unpaid labor, not a formal "monitor tour," but a give-and-take where the host gets real perspective and everyone involved gets a genuinely enjoyable, culturally rich experience. This session uses a real case to form the shape of the program we look to launch in July.
Host Cameron Merrick-Braund — Goen Day
First recipient of Kumamoto's Startup Visa and co-creator of the Global Idea Lab event series along with Goto Keisuke since December 2025. He serves as Managing Operator & Image Design Lead for the Global Idea Lab Series and runs Goen Day, a consultancy business focused on developing broad, creative & strategic approaches to social issues at the intersection of international residents and travelers, and implementing them into business practices and systems.
Activity Lead Walter Pugil — Adastra, Kumamoto
With over 10 years in Japan and specialized expertise in interactive group facilitations across Japanese and international communities, Walter is a core pillar in designing and leading the high-quality activities that drive each Global Idea Lab session. The TasukeAi concept is his — and his facilitation methods are built to cross language and cultural lines, creating space where everyone contributes.
Special Guest Kaori — Grandma's House 春 -HARU-
A participant since our very first Global Idea Lab event, Kaori brings her experience as a local business owner to the table as a real TasukeAi case. Her business, Grandma's House 春 -HARU-, is a socially driven venture with a vision to connect community and create meaningful experiences. She'll be working with the group to shape what a TasukeAi field trip to her business could look like.

About the Event
Global Idea Lab Kumamoto is an event series that blends Kumamoto's local assets, its past/present/future climate with global perspectives to co-create new ideas and opportunities.
The Global Idea Lab has generated great discussions and built a strong network — now we want to see it make deeper impact in the communities around us. TasukeAi is the next step: a program where our members take what they bring to these events — wide-ranging, global perspectives — and put it directly to work for local businesses looking to better align their offerings with what international travelers want to experience, and with how they can integrate more meaningfully into their local community.
This session uses Kaori's business as a live case. Together we'll work out the structure of the program, the logistics that make it worth showing up for, and shape the first field trip we plan to launch in July.

架け橋をつくる：「TasukeAi」
先月、私たちは2つのアイデアを場に出しました——コミュニティ・ファーストのアプリと、「TasukeAi（助け合い）」という名の相互扶助プログラムです。参加者からの反応は活発で、どちらも実際に検証され、結論ははっきりしていました——もう語るだけの段階は終わり、動き出すときだと。第7回は、その TasukeAi をかたちにする回です。
TasukeAi は、外国人居住者と地元の人が一緒に、社会的な意義を持って地域に貢献しようとしているローカルビジネスを訪ねる「フィールドトリップ型」の相互扶助プログラムです。国際旅行者が本当に体験したいことや、地元コミュニティとのより深いつながりを、多様な視点から一緒に考えていきます。無償労働でもなく、形式ばった「モニターツアー」でもありません——ホストは本物の気づきを得て、参加者は楽しく、文化的にも豊かな体験を持ち帰る。今回のセッションでは、実際のケースを使って、7月のローンチに向けてプログラムの形を作り上げます。

熊本のスタートアップビザ第一号取得者であり、2025年12月に五島圭祐と共に Global Idea Lab イベントシリーズを共同創設。マネージングオペレーター兼イメージデザインリードを務め、外国人居住者・旅行者と地域社会の接点における社会課題に対して、幅広く創造的かつ戦略的なアプローチを策定し、ビジネス実践やシステムへの実装に取り組むコンサルタンシー事業「Goen Day」を運営。
アクティビティリード Walter Pugil — Adastra, 熊本
日本在住10年以上、日本人コミュニティ・国際コミュニティ双方でのインタラクティブなグループファシリテーションを専門とするウォルター。Global Idea Lab の各セッションにおいて、質の高いアクティビティの設計と運営を担う中核的な存在です。TasukeAi の構想は彼によるもので、言語や文化の壁を越え、全員が参加できる場をつくるファシリテーション手法を実践しています。

第1回 Global Idea Lab から参加してくれているメンバーの一人、Kaori。彼女が営む「Grandma's House 春 -HARU-」は、地域とのつながりと豊かな体験づくりを大切にする、社会的なビジョンを持ったビジネスです。今回は実際の TasukeAi ケースとして、彼女のビジネスへのフィールドトリップをどう設計できるかをみんなで一緒に考えます。

イベントについて
Global Idea Lab Kumamoto は、熊本の地域資産とその過去・現在・未来の状況をグローバルな視点と掛け合わせ、新しいアイデアや機会を共創するイベントシリーズです。
これまでの Global Idea Lab は、活発な議論と豊かなネットワークの場を生み出してきました。次のステップは、そのエネルギーをイベントの外へ、地域のコミュニティへと届けることです。TasukeAi はその実践の場——参加メンバーが持つ幅広い、そしてグローバルな視点を活かして、国際旅行者が本当に体験したいことや地元コミュニティとのより深いつながりを求めているローカルビジネスを、直接サポートしていく仕組みです。
今回は Kaori のビジネスをライブケースとして使い、プログラムの構造・参加したくなるための段取り・そして7月に予定している最初のフィールドトリップの形を一緒に作り上げます。
