Special Edition Critical Mass Ride Rosebank to Randburg
JOZI’S ROADS ARE NOT SAFE.
We are hosting a special Critical Mass ride on Friday, 21 February to honour cyclists and pedestrians who have been killed on Johannesburg’s roads. This ride is for remembrance, visibility, and safer streets.
We ride in honour of:
David Sejobe
Atish Jivan
Jayesh Madhav
Calib de Kock
Dr Mark Oliver
Kerry Grudlingh
Sanele Mhlungu
And the many others whose names we do not always hear.
Critical Mass began as a global movement to make cyclists and pedestrians visible in cities built around cars. It is a peaceful, collective ride that shows how many people rely on walking and cycling every day, and how unsafe our streets have become. We ride together to claim space, to be seen, and to demand change.
We meet in Rosebank and cycle to Randburg, where David Sejobe worked, and back. The route reflects everyday travel patterns and the real risks people face when moving through the city.
This is a slow, inclusive, and respectful ride. All experience levels are welcome. All human powered wheels are allowed, including bicycles, skateboards, and rollerblades. Safety support will be provided with marshals and 24 7 security.
Date: Saturday, 21 February
Meet up area: Rosebank, Johannesburg - location to be confirmed
Route. Rosebank to Randburg and back
This ride forms part of broader work led by Young Urbanists, Active Mobility Forum, Jozi My Jozi, and partners, working collectively with the City on:
Street experiments to make roads safer, faster, and to support first and last mile access to public transport and BRT systems
Tactical cycling lanes to create protected and connected cycling routes
Upgrading spaces for last mile delivery drivers
Policy reform to support the City’s complete streets framework
