Making transparency useful: Helping people find, connect and understand government information

The Transparency Portal exists to help people understand how government works. Whether you're a citizen, parliamentarian, researcher, journalist, public servant, business representative or member of a civil society organisation, access to reliable information is essential for understanding how public institutions operate, what they intend to do, how they perform, and how public resources are used.

Because of this, the Portal is more than just another government website. Its usability is a critical part of its accountability function. Transparency is not achieved simply by publishing documents online. It requires an information environment that helps users understand what information is available, why it matters, where to find it, how different pieces of information connect, and how that information can be used. This workshop will explore how a redeveloped Transparency Portal could better support users to access, navigate and make sense of government information.

AI CoLab events are intentionally open and collaborative. We capture photos, audio, and AI-generated transcripts so we can remix key insights for the AI CoLab Alliance community. This is always done in line with the Charter’s values; transparent, ethical innovation and knowledge sharing to accelerate collective learning (see join.aicolab.org). By participating in an AI CoLab event, you agree to your contributions being captured and shared in accordance with this policy.
