About Event

The UK faces a pivotal moment: with global competition intensifying, domestic pressures mounting, and the public finances under deep strain. Stagnant productivity, a complex planning system, skills shortages, weak business investment and constrained access to long-term capital are all acting as brakes on the economy back. At the same time, high energy costs, regulatory uncertainty and slow infrastructure delivery continue to dampen confidence.

Yet while the search for economic growth has never been more urgent, it is also solvable with sustained, targeted reform efforts, building on the nation’s great strengths to power UK prosperity.

Re:State is delighted to welcome Gareth Davies MP, Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury; David Simmonds MP, Shadow Minister (Levelling Up, Housing and Communities); Tali Fraser, Commissioning Editor and Writer-at-large, The Spectator, and Yael Selfin, Chief Economist and Vice Chair, KMPG, to explore the practical reforms needed to unlock growth – and the respective roles government and business must play.

This panel is kindly supported by KPMG.
