Dykes and Dolls Beach Day

​Join us for a lil beach hang on Saturday Aug 15!! The Rockaway Ocean Club is scheduled to be soft opening this weekend, so let’s show up and remind them that this always has been and always will be The People’s Beach!

​We will be out there 12-4 PM, but of course feel free to arrive or leave whenever you’d like. Never been out to Riis? Easiest route is to take the A to Rockaway Parkway - Beach 116 St, then transfer to the Q35 and ride it to the Jacob Riis Park Road!

​For those who have not been - Riis is a nude beach! Most beach go-ers wear however much is comfortable to them, which usually means just topless. Less nudity is not discouraged by any means, however! Show up however feels most natural to you. As with all Dykes and Dolls events, we encourage all to join us - not just dykes and not just dolls. We welcome anyone across the trans and queer spectrum at our events. We have a zero tolerance policy for transphobia, homophobia, zionism, racism, sexism, sexual harassment, and bigotry of any kind.

​NYC’s beloved Riis (The People’s) Beach is facing the opening of a private beach club in an effort to turn our city’s oldest historically queer and trans public space into a corporate-owned beach front.

​People's Riisearch Group (@pplsriisearch) has been documenting the development project of Jacob Riis Bathhouse’s multi-million dollar remodeling. Sign their petition to boycott the Rockaway Ocean Club and follow their organizing and stewardship of Riis Beach!!!

​We will be distributing mini zines on our community’s history with Riis and how to support the resistance to its current privatization, and support the space as we celebrate in the waves, sun, and one another!
