​Spend Sunday Differently—in Queens

​New friendships need somewhere to begin.

​Public Life Collective (PLC) is a free monthly gathering for curious New Yorkers who want to meet new people while experiencing the city together.

​For our first gathering of 2027—and our first in Queens—we’ll spend Sunday afternoon in western Queens, near the border with Brooklyn. The exact meeting place will be shared with everyone who RSVPs closer to the event.

​We spend an afternoon in places worth noticing, giving conversation room to emerge without making anyone the entire focus of the day. Over time, returning faces and shared experiences can become recognition, familiarity, and perhaps friendship.

​The afternoon follows a simple rhythm:

• ​1:00 PM — Arrive and settle into a remarkable public place in western Queens.

• ​2:00 PM — Explore the place and surrounding neighborhood together at a leisurely pace.

• ​3:00 PM — Land somewhere inviting and stay for as much of the afternoon as you like.

​This is not networking, dating, or a guided tour. There is nothing to pitch, accomplish, or perform. It is simply a chance to spend a Sunday with other people and with New York.

​Coming alone is completely normal, and bringing a friend is always welcome. You don’t need to speak to everyone, follow every movement, or participate in one particular way. Sit, stand, wander, take photographs, join a conversation, or spend some time observing what is around you.

​Whether you arrived in New York last month or have lived here most of your life, each gathering offers another way to experience the city—and another shared afternoon to return to.

​How We Spend the Afternoon

​Come curious.
You don’t need to prepare anything or be especially outgoing. Openness to the people and places around you is enough.

​Look up and be here.
Phones are welcome for photographs, directions, coordination, accessibility, and emergencies. When you can, give your attention to what is happening immediately around you.

​Begin with names.
We set aside titles, employers, résumés, and professional standing. For the afternoon, first names are enough.

​Let work wait.
Instead of asking, “What do you do?”, begin somewhere else: what someone noticed, what they have been thinking about, a place they love, or something they are curious to understand.

​Choose your own way through.
Move or remain still. Talk often or listen. Change groups, explore nearby, or leave whenever you need to. There is no correct way to participate.
