Gate Lecture Series #2: Discernment

​The London Basketweavers are pleased to invite you to Discernment, the next instalment in our Gate Lecture Series. The purpose of these lectures is to invite various guests from throughout our sphere to talk in-depth on topics that they are passionate about, and engage in an environment where discussion and discourse can flow freely. At the end of each evening, we want you to walk away feeling not only that you have learnt something, but you have been able to engage with the topic critically.

​​This second lecture, titled Discernment, will be an examination into our ability to decide, differentiate, and judge in a society and culture where everything and everyone is increasingly geared towards a single lowest common denominator. Taking us on this journey will be Nina Power of the New Culture Forum and Rupert August. Astute, eloquent, and heartfelt speakers, their insight will be invaluable in exploring a topic as complex and multifaceted as this.

​​Doors will open at 4pm, with the bar open and food available to order. The lecture itself will begin at 5pm and consist of two individual speeches, followed by a structured discussion and Q&A session. The segments will be broken up with intermissions, where the bar and kitchen will reopen for additional refreshments. Following conclusion of the Q&A, the bar and kitchen will reopen fully until we close up at around 10pm.

​​We will be hosting at a hotel in Stevenage, very easy to get to from the railway station. The station is on the Thameslink and LNER lines with frequent trains from London, Cambridge, Peterborough, Brighton, and Leeds. There will also be plenty of parking available for those driving, both at the hotel and streetside. The precise location will be communicated upon successful registration.

​​Tickets will be £5 on the door. Food and drink will be charged separately, but be assured that prices will be reasonable. Note that the entire event will be CASH ONLY, so please make sure you have enough cash with you for the whole evening.
