Kek Lapis Compost Workshop
This is a workshop where what we compost is gathered lovingly as ingredients to prepare a nourishing meal for beneficial soil microbes.
The experience starts 1 week before we meet: You will receive by email, some instructions on how to prepare kitchen scraps for aerobic composting.
When we meet, we will be exploring the connections between compost, soil, plants, and food — and reflect on what we appreciate about a planet where diverse life thrives.
You will also make a container compost to bring home. You will learn how to tend to it so that the finished compost smells earthy, is rich with beneficial life, and has a soil-like texture. Throughout the process, there should be no foul smell. We will explore why composting is often associated with unpleasant odours and unwanted pests - and what you can do to avoid these.
The session will include common challenges and practical tips for composting in limited apartment spaces, as well as options for giving away well-made compost if you don't have a need for it.
The composting approach we share emphasises on having ensuring good airflow. We will also mention the use of fermentation or freezing of kitchen scraps as part of the ingredient-collection process before addition to container compost systems.
