Väliväylä Midsummer Adventure 🚣
About the event
Celebrate Juhannus on the water this year — canoeing through the wild waterways of Väliväylä 🚣
Join us for a 3-day midsummer canoeing adventure along the Väliväylä route from Kannuskoski to Käyrälampi near Kouvola. This route follows a historic old log-floating waterway connecting the Saimaa lake system to the Kymijoki river. Along the way we’ll paddle through narrow river sections of Kymijoki, its gentle currents, and several challenging rapids, while camping in the middle of Finnish summer nature 🌿🔥
This trip is physically active and requires previous kayaking experience and swimming skills. Some rapids are demanding, but can also be bypassed by carrying the kayaks on land if needed. The route is suitable for experienced paddlers and sporty outdoor enthusiasts comfortable spending full days on the water 💪

Väliväylä
Paddling through Väliväylä means following an old working waterway once used by lumber workers and log drivers. Before modern roads and trucks, rivers like these were essential transport routes connecting remote forests with sawmills and industrial towns. Today, traces of that history can still be seen along the canals, dams, and restored structures on the route 🚣
Requirements
Previous kayaking experience (at least 15–20 km per day) and swimming skills are required. Participants should feel comfortable paddling in changing weather conditions and handling basic portages.
