Walktober Finale: The Golden Gate Half-Dozen
Celebrate the close of Walktober with Crosstown Trails founder Bob Siegel on a 6-mile walk from Lands End to Presidio Tunnel Tops. Our route follows Section 5 of the new Roundabout as well as a stretch of the new Golden Gate Dozen Trail. At Land’s End, we’ll take in the views and imagine what life might have been like long ago – in the early 20th century when the Sutro Baths were in their heyday, or even farther back, when Yelamu Ohlone lived off the land. We’ll head east along the scenic Coastal Trail, following the old rail line that once brought visitors to Adolph Sutro’s oceanside attractions. We weave through the beautiful Sea Cliff neighborhood, hit the sand at famed Baker Beach, and climb the notorious Sand Ladder. We’ll be rewarded by breathtaking views of the Marin Headlands on our way to the Golden Gate Bridge. We descend to Crissy Field, a historic 1920s airfield, and finish at the main post of the Presidio, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary.
Because it’s Halloween, we're adding treats along the way. We will make short stops at four visitor centers – Lands End Lookout, Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, Warming Hut, and Presidio Visitor Center – for festive snacks, exclusive guidebook discounts, and a surprise or two, courtesy of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Costumes are highly encouraged!
While this epic walk is entirely free, your optional donations (and in-store purchases) to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy as well as the Crosstown Trails directly fund the upkeep of these stunning public spaces. Come discover how truly connected our city’s parks and neighborhoods really are.
Route Overview
The 6-mile point-to-point walk hugs San Francisco's dramatic northwestern edge. You can visit The Roundabout for self-guided exploration of the full 38-mile trail any time of the year.
Travel & Logistics
Because this is a point-to-point walk, we recommend taking public transit.
Getting to the start: Meet at Lands End Lookout Visitor Center, convenient to the Muni 38R Geary Rapid and the Muni 18 46th Ave.
Returning from the finish: The walk ends at Presidio Tunnel Tops, a major transit hub. Catch the free Presidio GO Shuttle, the Muni 43 Masonic, or the Muni 30 Stockton, all near the park's many dining options.
The fine print: Terrain is a mix of dirt trails, sand, pavement, and stairs. Bring snacks, water, layers, and anything else you need. The special Halloween treats, Conservancy discounts, and volunteer-led perks are exclusively available to walkers joining the group on October 31.
