The Pleasure of Rest: a Thai massage exchange
The Pleasure of Rest
a Thai massage exchange with Apples & Ez
Event description
Join Apples (they/them) and Ez (they/them) for an evening of rest and care through a Thai massage bodywork exchange. Together, we’ll invite rest into our bodies and notice the everyday sensations that might offer pleasure: a soft slow breath, the warmth of touch, letting ourselves fall in love with gravity for a while.
During the Thai massage exchange, we will take time to find positions that are comfortable and easeful for both givers and receivers. When giving, lots of Thai massage is done standing or kneeling, and alternatives will be provided for anyone who would prefer to sit. When receiving, we will be sitting up or laying on our backs, and there will be props to support your comfort. Everyone will be fully clothed for the event.
Register with a pal, or sign up on your own to exchange with another individual participant.
This workshop is for 2SLGBTQIA+ and friends, meaning we will center queer experiences and welcome friends.
What to wear
Loose, comfortable clothing. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended, along with layers to help you stay warm.
What to bring
Soft knee pads if you have them, anything that helps you feel comfortable, and a notebook if you like to draw or write things down.
Accessibility
If you have access needs you’d like to discuss, please contact Apples before the workshop so we have time to explore arrangements together. You can also speak with them when you arrive.
No one is turned away for lack of funds. If the cost is a barrier to you, please reach out to Apples and we will work with what you feel is possible.
Timing
6:30–6:45pm — An easeful arrival
Time to arrive, get comfortable, and begin letting go of your day. If you’re running a little behind, this time gives you some breathing room without missing anything.
6:45–9:15pm — Workshop
Opening circle, a gentle warm-up, and a Thai massage demonstration followed by a 5-10 min break. Then pairing for a guided bodywork exchange with time in both the giving and receiving roles. We will finish with a closing circle.
9:15–9:30pm — An restful departure
A flexible, unhurried finish that lets us continue inviting rest and pleasure as we pack up, or linger and socialize while we make our way to the door.
Who we are
Apples Sebastian (they/them)
Apples helps queer and trans people who feel stuck or live with chronic tension create more space for ease, rest, and a sense of aliveness in their bodies. They’re curious about the small, practical things that make everyday life more enjoyable and spacious. Allowing spaciousness to arrive invites creativity, and from there possibility emerges. Through the collaborative and generous nature of Thai massage, Apples believes we can support each other to create space for creativity to thrive.
Ezra "Ez" Cake (they/them)
Ez supports queer, trans and gender-diverse folks and allies in exploring sexuality, gender, and the sometimes complicated business of living in a body. A Registered Psychotherapist with 14 years in practice, Ez offers sex therapy and gender-affirming care with warmth, curiosity, and humour. They’re interested in pleasure’s knack for interrupting familiar stories and bringing us back to our own truths and the experience we’re actually having.
