Screening #001: An Engineer Imagines
His first job was making the Sydney Opera House roof work. He then went on to co-create such iconic buildings as The Pompidou Centre, The Louvre, and also—of course—Fingal County Hall.
Peter Rice was truly one of the greatest structural engineers of the modern era, and deserves to be as much of a household name as his collaborators—like Richard Rogers, I. M. Pei, Norman Foster, and Renzo Piano. He was the second engineer ever to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects (the first was Ove Arup—yes, that Arup).
He achieved so much in such a short career and his writings convey not just technical and creative excellence, but a true humanity and worldliness that is all too rare today. It is hard to visit anywhere and not see Rice's impact.
Come and join us for a screening of "An Engineer Imagines", the documentary about Rice's life & work, as we celebrate the achievements of this wonderful Dubliner.
