Morning Wellness: Yoga & Breath at Bhakti Yoga DC
Start Day Two by breathing deeply and moving gently before the room fills up. This one-hour class mixes yoga and breathwork to wake up our bodies, settle our minds, and set us up for a full day of masterminds, firesides, and conversation. The class welcomes all levels, so first-timers and daily practitioners will both feel at home. When class ends, it’s a short walk over to breakfast at AARP (or a quick few steps back to the Arlo to change!)
About the studio and its founder
Bhakti means devotion, and that spirit runs through the whole studio. Bhakti Yoga DC is a community-centered studio offering healing yoga for beginners and experienced practitioners, along with meditation, breathwork, and kirtan (devotional chanting). The building once served as a homeless women’s shelter, and the studio carries that legacy forward by supporting people experiencing housing insecurity.
The studio was founded by Gopi Kinnicutt, its founder and owner. Gopi has taught yoga since 2003. She came to the practice to heal from stress, anxiety, and depression rooted in deep trauma, and she began teaching so she could offer others that same healing. After moving to Washington, she taught at studios across the city for ten years, then opened her own studio in Mount Vernon Triangle as a holistic healing center. Her guiding advice to women building something of their own is to believe in yourself and what you have to offer, which makes her a natural fit for this room.
Accessibility note: The studio is on the second floor and, unfortunately, isn’t wheelchair accessible. Reaching it requires climbing two flights of stairs. If this affects your plans, let us know. Thank you!
