When consumed correctly, sound can enhance ur emotional state, facilitate healing, love and ultimately enlightenment. In today’s world, with numerous distractions and afflictions, we all need a bit of that, looking inwards and communal healing. At KOMUSŌ, we’re a community that appreciates good music, high quality/fidelity sound and equipment, we love plants, eating together, exercise & movement, tea and a healthy society. We await to share with you a ‘Sunday Sound Service’, an intimate, highly sensual and heavily textured listening experience.
KOMUSŌ SOUND SERVICE congregates on the 1st Sunday each month to commune, observe, feel and listen listen listen attentively to the sound monks. An opportunity for enlightenment.
An exchange of alms, has always been at the heart of Komusō tradition, which dates back to the 17th century, specifically the Edo period in Japanese history. A wandering Komusō priest could appear in your vicinity, playing a highly coveted shakuachi flute, which produced an enchanted sound claimed to aid calmness, relaxation, meditation, ultimately enlightenment and in the least, brought a feeling of community and belonging, to anyone fortunate to listen. The listener would then show their appreciation by offering alms (token donations) to the priest. Following this tradition is necessary for KOMUSŌ to support our logistics, setup, production and of course the artists, our monks.
