​Join Ask GINI - Suriname Travel, a free online session hosted by 🌻 GINI founder Virginia Scheele.
​GINI Travel creates small-scale cultural journeys for travellers who want more than sightseeing. We combine cultural heritage, colonial history, local knowledge, meaningful participation and thoughtfully organised travel, working with local guides, hosts, cooks, drivers, makers and community partners along the way.
​The idea is simple: you don’t just travel through a place - you understand more of the people, histories and cultures behind it.
​During this session, we’ll explore what makes Suriname such a layered and fascinating destination, what you may want to know before travelling there, and how you can experience the country with more depth.

​You’re only looking for the cheapest possible way to travel Suriname, want a fully resort-based holiday with very little cultural context, or prefer to organise every part of your trip independently without support, local interpretation or curated experiences.
​GINI is designed for travellers who value context, relationships, participation and thoughtful organisation alongside the travel itself.
​How can you travel Suriname with GINI?
​There isn’t only one way.
​You can join one of our small-group journeys, let us build a custom trip around your interests, book selected cultural tours and experiences, or explore a more personal roots journey.
​Our upcoming Srefidensi Mama Sranan journey in November 2026 is one example. It’s a small-scale cultural group journey built around Independence Day, food, history, communities, nature, the interior and slower travel.
​If you already stay with family in Suriname, you don’t need a full package to travel with GINI. You can also join selected experiences or let us help you discover parts of the country you wouldn’t normally organise yourself.
​And if your reason for travelling is more personal, we also design roots and ancestry journeys around family history, identity, heritage and your connection to place.
​We can’t promise that every family story can be traced neatly. What we can do is design a thoughtful journey around the places, histories, communities and questions that matter to you.
​About Virginia
​Virginia Scheele is the founder of GINI Travel.
​GINI grew partly out of her own search for identity and belonging. Virginia was born to an adopted Indian mother and an Afro-Surinamese/Dutch father, and those different family histories shaped her interest in diaspora, roots, colonial history, cultural remembrance and the stories behind the places we travel to.
​She combines that perspective with experience in research, strategy and project development to build journeys that are both meaningful and operationally well-designed.
​About GINI Travel
​GINI Travel develops culturally rooted journeys and experiences in Suriname, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Indonesia and the Netherlands, alongside custom travel elsewhere.
​We focus on cultural depth over checklist tourism, participation over observation, local knowledge and relationships, and more intentional local value creation.
​We are also radical transparent that GINI is still deepening its destination expertise in Suriname. We don’t claim to know everything or speak for the country. We work with local guides, hosts, cultural knowledge holders and community partners, and continue to learn from research, travellers and people in Suriname as we build.
