About Event

Ethereum security is usually discussed in terms of smart contracts, wallets, and applications. But Ethereum is also a distributed communication system. Every user action travels through a wallet, an application, an RPC endpoint, a node, and finally the peer-to-peer network. At each layer, information can be observed or inferred, even when the underlying data is protected.

The Resilient Networking Hub is a community space at Devcon 8 built around one question: what makes a permissionless network truly resilient, and what does it reveal about the people using it? Using libp2p, the open-source networking stack behind much of the decentralized web, we explore how networks connect, fail, recover, resist attack, and stay private, and how to measure all of it without compromising openness.

This is a hands-on learning space, not a conventional conference track. About half the programme is talks, and half is workshops, experiments, research clinics, and open-source contributor sessions.

What we explore

  • Connectivity: peer identity, discovery, transports, DHTs, relays, and NAT traversal

  • Failure and recovery: partitions, churn, outages, and message propagation with GossipSub

  • Adversarial conditions: Sybil and eclipse scenarios, peer-discovery manipulation, and the attack surface of the P2P layer

  • Privacy and metadata leakage: what timing, topology, and peer relationships can reveal across layers

  • Observability: measuring network behavior without unnecessary exposure

  • Censorship resistance: how network-level censorship emerges and how it can be measured

  • Interoperability: keeping implementations and ecosystems compatible

  • What’s next: post-quantum cryptography in P2P networking, verifiable infrastructure, and networks built for autonomous AI agents

What you’ll get from the Hub

  • A clear mental model of how resilient peer-to-peer networks work, from the application layer down to the peers

  • Hands-on experience with libp2p, IPFS tooling, and open-source networking projects

  • Practical methods to observe, measure, and reproduce network behavior and leakage

  • Direct access to libp2p maintainers, researchers, and security practitioners

  • A way into open-source contribution, whatever your experience level

  • Something concrete to take home: a reproducible experiment, a threat model, a measurement, a research question, or a first contribution

Who it’s for
Ethereum client and protocol developers, P2P networking engineers, security and privacy researchers, infrastructure operators, application and wallet developers, open-source maintainers, and students. Technical sessions assume a basic understanding of computer networking. You don’t need to be an expert in P2P networking or security. Sessions are in English.

Open, responsible, and non-commercial
The Hub is community-driven and marketing-free, with no token promotion or product pitches, in line with Devcon Community Hub principles. Security experiments run in controlled environments with a defensive focus, and nothing is aimed at Devcon infrastructure, Ethereum mainnet, or other production systems. Workshop materials, methodologies, and code will be shared openly after the event wherever possible.

Get ready before Devcon
Join the Hub’s Telegram group to ask a networking question and meet the contributors ahead of time.
