About Event

⚡Overview

Knowing is one thing. Practicing is an entirely different thing.

Most workshops give us knowledge: polished slides filled with concepts, frameworks, and diagrams.

We leave with a few pages of notes and perhaps a new way of seeing things.

But understanding something does not necessarily mean we can do it.

  • You may know that listening matters.

  • You may understand the importance of feedback.

  • You may even know what psychological safety, trust, or authentic communication should look like.

But what happens when you are actually sitting across from another person?

  • When you disagree.

  • When someone gives you feedback you do not like.

  • When what you intended is not what the other person experienced.

That is where knowing meets practice.

And that is where this workshop begins.

💡Less time talking about interpersonal skills. More time practicing them.

This workshop is intentionally designed differently.

We will begin with a small amount of conceptual input and exercises to give us a shared language.

Then, the majority of the workshop will be dedicated to experiential learning through T-group and related class exercises.

📖 Why T-group

Developed in the late 1940s, T-group, short for training group, has been used for decades as an experiential approach to understanding interpersonal dynamics.

It is also at the heart of Interpersonal Dynamics, one of Stanford Graduate School of Business's long-running experiential courses, where participants learn about themselves and others through what happens in real time within a small group.

And that is precisely why we are using it here.

Because interpersonal skills are difficult to learn from slides alone.

To understand how you listen, communicate, give feedback, respond to disagreement, build trust, or affect another person, you need other people in the room.

T-group turns the interaction into learning.

  • You may notice yourself wanting to speak but holding back.

  • You may realize that something you said landed differently than you intended.

  • You may become curious about why you feel more comfortable with one person than another.

  • You may receive feedback about yourself that you have never heard before.

🎯 Workshop Outcome

This workshop aims to equip you with skills to build and sustain interpersonal relationships.

Interpersonal skills are sometimes dismissed as “soft skills,” yet much of organizational life depends on them:

  • how we build trust,

  • how we manage expectations,

  • how we navigate disagreement,

  • how we coordinate with others,

  • how we give and receive feedback,
and how we stay in relationship when things become uncomfortable.

After all, the only way to truly understand how you relate to other people is to... relate to other people.

👥 Who This Is For

This course is open to both the public and graduates of our other programs, but we intentionally keep the group small: a maximum of 15 participants.

If you're new to our classes and decide to make this course your entry point, then welcome! There are no prerequisites for joining.

If you're a graduate of System Work Level 1 or Level 2, then:

  • Yes, this course is still relevant for you.

  • Concepts explored in System Work Level 1 and Level 2, such as awareness, emotion, communication, trust, boundaries, and the use of self, may appear again here.

  • The difference is where the emphasis lies:

    • System Work helps you develop ways of seeing.
This workshop gives you more room to experiment with what you see.

    • We will spend most of our time putting those ideas into practice through real interactions.
