Portraits From The Front Line
When Russia invaded Ukraine, Max was living a very different life, painting flowers in the quiet of his London studio while Europe trembled. The war’s headlines were impossible to ignore. Friends of his, like Eddy Scott, a sailor turned frontline medic, were risking their lives to help. Art, for all its beauty, suddenly seemed small. When Eddy invited him to witness what was happening beyond the news cycle, Max picked up his sketchbook and paints to follow him east, straight to the front lines.
The journey shattered the comfortable bubble Max once lived in. He went to Ukraine as a painter; he returned transformed, an artist who understands that creativity can bear witness and a person who can no longer turn away from the world’s harshest truths.
This documentary captures that transformation: not just the war itself, but the humanity that survives inside it, and how it permanently altered the way Max sees art, conflict, and the meaning of courage.
