9/11 Day of Service with New York Cares
On Friday, Sept. 11, let’s gather at the USS Intrepid to volunteer in the 9/11 Day of Service through New York Cares. Together, we’ll honor the lives lost by transforming remembrance into meaningful action, community care, and service.

We’ll be volunteering as Shift 3 Table Captains, helping lead meal-packing efforts that will support communities facing food insecurity. In 2025, more than 6,000 volunteers in NYC packed 2 million meals - turning a day of tragedy into one of compassion, unity, and hope.
As Table Captains, we’ll help welcome and guide volunteers throughout the shift by:
Leading and supporting a meal-packing table of 13 volunteers
Explaining the packing-line roles and safety procedures
Keeping the energy positive and collaborative
Helping coordinate meal-packing operations and supplies
Ensuring food safety practices are followed
Supporting clean-up and reset between shifts
New York Cares will provide a brief orientation before we set up our assigned tables.
This is a hands-on volunteer opportunity. We will be standing for the duration of the 4-hour shift and may be asked to lift boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.
Please plan on arriving by 12:30 PM to allow enough time for check-in, security, and getting to the volunteer orientation room by 12:45 PM. Event support volunteers will be available to guide you on where to go.

After the volunteer shift, anyone interested is welcome to continue the afternoon with us at Sullivan Street Bakery for light bites, refreshments, and conversation - just an opportunity to unwind, connect, and reflect.
This gathering is about service and community and honoring those who were killed on September 11 by giving back together. We look forward to volunteering alongside you.
