Unfuck Your Writing: Bullshit Writing 'Rules'
'Unfuck Your Writing' — A Monthly Online Hangout
Join me for an informal group Zoom to talk about our creative processes, what's inspired us lately, what we're struggling with, and to share ideas on how to unfuck ourselves (and our writing).
These sessions are an offshoot from my original workshop, Unfuck Your Writing, which broke down all the different layers of fuckery that stops us writing — from big life stuff (hey there global politics) to micro aggressions (where the fuck is my notebook?).
But The Great Unfuckening is an ongoing process, so I thought it might be useful to get together for a monthly hangout to make tiny changes and improvements, swap tips and epiphanies, support one another, and just chat shit with some fellow creatives.
Each month, we'll focus on a different topic, discuss our thoughts, try a lil' writing exercise or brainstorming activity, and come up with at least one tangible next step to help our writing process to flow more smoothly.
So, what are we unfucking in May?
This month, we're talking about BULLSHIT WRITING 'RULES':
All the crappy writing advice that (for some reason) we're still hanging on to
All the things we need to unlearn, unpick, reframe and throw in the sea
All the methods that actually DO work for us instead, and the unwritten rules we may already have crafted for ourselves
What to expect from the hangout:
A one-hour group Zoom session — bring snacks, and maybe something to write notes on
A friendly group of writers and creatives trying to figure out how they work best (and why)
Me! Your host, an editor, mentor and writer-of-all-trades with over 15 years of experience supporting creative people to sort their shit out
A semi-guided, mostly open discussion about this month's topic — ask for advice, share your experiences, or just chill and listen
A short exercise or prompt to get you thinking about how to make a small adjustment to your creative process, or explore your writing in a new way
The chance to continue the conversation in my Substack group chat
(Any other questions? Email me at [email protected])
Hope to see you there!
