About Event

Omenala alụmdi na nwunye agbanweela ka oge na-aga. Gịnị ka anyị ka na-eme? Gịnịkwa ka anyị na-ahapụ?

Marriage is more than the union of two people. In Igbo culture, it is a joining of families, a meeting of traditions, and a celebration of identity, values, and community.

But as our society evolves and Igbo families navigate life at home and across the diaspora, how are our marriage rites changing? Which traditions remain meaningful? Which practices are being reinterpreted? And how can we preserve the values of our heritage while responding to the realities of modern life?

Join us for the second edition of OKIRIKIRI Nkata Igbo, our interactive conversation circle where Ndị Igbo come together to speak, listen, learn, and share perspectives on issues that matter to our people.

Our Theme: Igba Nkwu — Marriage Rites, Then and Now

Together, we will explore:

  • The meaning and significance of traditional Igbo marriage rites.

  • The roles of families and communities in the marriage process.

  • How marriage customs have changed across generations.

  • The influence of modern lifestyles, religion, and the diaspora.

  • What we should preserve, rethink, and pass on to the next generation.

This is more than a discussion about marriage. It is an opportunity to reflect on our values, exchange experiences, ask questions, and strengthen our understanding of Igbo culture.
