What Would A Matriarchal US Look Like?
A Curious Culture Critic Conversation
What would society look like if we organized it differently?
We have lived within patriarchal systems for so long that many of their assumptions can feel natural:
Who leads?
Who owns?
Who provides?
Who cares for children?
Who makes decisions?
What does power look like?
What is considered valuable?
But what if these aren't simply facts of human nature?
The Mother Empire is a conversation about matriarchy, and an invitation to imagine what becomes possible when we examine a different way of organizing collective life.
We'll explore the differences between patriarchal and matriarchal ways of organizing society, looking beyond the question of who holds power to examine how power itself might be structured differently.
We'll look to nature and animal societies, including elephants, for another perspective on leadership, family, cooperation, memory, protection, and collective survival.
And then we'll bring the question home:
What might the United States look like if it were organized according to matriarchal principles?
What might change about:
family and community
leadership and governance
economics and wealth
land and housing
food
birth and motherhood
education
health
care
aging and death
our relationship with one another and the natural world
This isn't a conversation about replacing one hierarchy with another or declaring women inherently better than men.
It's an opportunity to question the architecture of society itself and imagine what collective life might look like if different values were placed at the center.
What if we built a little piece of it?
