Director’s Statement
Cloud and fog are both formed from water vapour, one in the sky and one on the ground. Perhaps fog may envy cloud for flying high and seeing far, but in the end, both cloud and fog are just someone else's scenery.
Nearly 70 years have passed since the White Terror in 1949, but there are few movies about this long-term political tragedy which resulted in thousands of victims and buried many true stories and real tears in the wilderness and the passage of time.
After the heartless period had passed, the victims lost their precious lives, youth, and freedom for ambition or wrongful accusation. Even their basic dignity was stripped away. The loved ones are gone, leaving behind the pain for their families to bear.
They endure panic, confusion, doubt, anger, sorrow, and fear repeatedly. They are the most innocent yet burdened with the most, yet they do not receive the care and respect they deserve.
Although time has passed and circumstances have changed, not seeing tears on a face now does not mean there were no tears shed before.
Therefore, I want to make a movie about the families of the victims, a story about love, in a cruel and ruthless era, where the brilliance of humanity can still be seen. In days of suffering, only love can help people move forward. We must bravely face painful past in order to understand the value of human rights and freedom.
Some people often say not to look back and reopen old wounds. But it is exactly because of their suffering that has shaped the present, we can treat the past as it is with the freedom and the human rights that we have today.
