🤡 Mic Drop 101: Standup Workshop [members-only]
​What: a safe & supportive & fun space to brainstorm, iterate and rehearse your standup comedy sets with fellow aspiring commoners who share your joy & challenges. All levels welcome. BEGINNER FRIENDLY.
​This is a 5-workshop series that will culminate in a final showcase with the last workshop being a rehearsal.
​Structure (Reference Only):
​**1. Introduction and Standup Essentials/Techniques (20 minutes)**
​- share your goals, favorite standup comedian, style, and/or techniques that worked for you or you want to experiment with, such as setup-punchline, callbacks, comedic timing, the rule of three, usage of props and other techniques.
​**2. Group Story Mining (20 minutes)**
​- Participants think of 1 personal anecdote or observations that they believe have the best comedic potential.
​- Each participant shares one anecdote briefly.

​**3. Group Deep-Dives (25 minutes)**
​- Divide participants into pairs or small groups.
​- Each participant chooses one anecdote to brainstorm. Together, they'll identify the funny elements, potential punchlines, or exaggerations.
​- Rotate groups once so participants get diverse feedback.

​**4. Writing the Bit (25 minutes)**
​- Using the feedback and ideas from the brainstorm, participants write or refine a short standup bit (1-2 minutes).

​**5. Standup Rehearsal (50 minutes)**
​- Each participant gets 5-7 minutes (depending on the group size) to perform their bit.
​- After each performance, two participants give one positive point and one suggestion for improvement.
