The Holidays Start NOW: A Tactical Guide to CTV for Q4
The holiday season starts with Black Friday, right?
Wrong.
43% of shoppers start holiday shopping in October. By the time Black Friday rolls around, 83% will have already started their shopping.
If you want to avoid being the brand that was late to this year’s consumer spendfest, read on.
What We'll Cover
On Sept 30, I'll sit down with Kira Federer, VP of Marketing, SMB Advertising at Paramount, to get tactical about:
How to build a holiday campaign workback schedule that doesn't start in a panic in November
How CTV complements your social and digital spend
How to create a holiday ad that drives action
How to target and measure CTV
What it looks like to run a campaign on a self-service CTV platform
Creative tips from a team that's built ads for some of the biggest brands in the world
This isn't a conversation about why streaming is great. We already know streaming is great.
This is about what to do before Q4 gets away from you.
Your Holiday Timeline Matters. A Lot.
Your holiday timeline plays a big role in your Q4 performance.
Delay, and you'll be competing for scraps.
If you’re running retargeting in December, the customer who was going to buy from you already bought from someone else in October.
And "showing up" doesn't just mean paid social and email.
Streaming hours climb 20% in Q4. Holiday content viewership spikes 2-3x around Thanksgiving and Christmas. TV ads are the #1 highest-influence ad format for holiday gift purchases (compared to social ads, influencer content, print, email, and radio), and more than 1/2 say they're more likely to buy something advertised during holiday TV programming.
We’re coming up on the highest-spend window of the year. It’s go time.
Yes, Now.
The average American plans to spend $100 less this holiday season than last year. That's less money in play, and more competition for it.
The brands that get that spend aren't the ones with the biggest Black Friday discount. They're the ones who built awareness early, and convinced shoppers to purchase before the discounts started flowing in.
Paramount's fall lineup is stacked right now: returning hits, new premieres, live sports, and a full slate of holiday programming rolling out through October and November. Audiences are tuning in together: over two-thirds of Americans watch Christmas movies and specials as a household, which means every ad in that window reaches more eyes, in more homes, at once.
And those viewers convert. People who watch a holiday TV ad are 61% more likely to make a purchase afterward.
The window to build that awareness is now, not November 20.
Who This Is For
This is for you if:
You’re a growth or performance marketer building out a Q4 media plan right now
You’re a brand or media team trying to figure out what gets noticed during the busiest ad season of the year
You’ve seen a "reach-only" channel outperform your social retargeting and you want to know why
You've assumed CTV is out of your budget. (hint: If you can afford social, you can afford TV)
You're feeling social's returns flatten and looking for the next lever to pull
If that's you, grab your spot.
Huge thanks to Paramount Ads Manager for partnering with us on this!
