About Event

One in four women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime (National Centre for Domestic Violence, 2026). It’s an issue that touches all of us around the world, through our own experiences or those of people we know.

Despite decades of campaigning, policy and investment, violence against women and girls remains one of society’s most persistent and complex challenges.

So what if we approached the problem differently?

In this session, Ian Ross, creator of the Conflict Cracker™, will demonstrate how the model can be used to explore the issue of violence against women and girls, in conversation with fellow founders Lynne Kerry and Maureen Steele.

We’ll briefly introduce the six steps, then work through them one by one, showing how each stage changes our understanding of the problem, challenges assumptions and opens up new possibilities for action.

The aim isn’t to offer a simple answer to a deeply complex issue. It’s to show what becomes possible when we look beneath the positions and apparent causes of conflict to the deeper drivers and identify potential leverage points for change.

You’ll leave with:

  • a clear understanding of how the Conflict Cracker works and what makes it different

  • a sense of how it could apply to other problems that seem stuck

  • the start of an idea about an issue that matters to you

A note on content: this session explores violence against women and girls at the level of causes and systems. It won’t include graphic accounts but please take care of yourself if the subject is personal to you.

Join us for the second event in the Fairness Forum programme and see the Conflict Cracker in action.
