Neurodiversity-affirming space: research workshop
Invitation
We (not AMASE, but the researchers named below) are inviting you to take part in a workshop to help with our research.
Our project
Our project is exploring what truly neurodiversity-affirming space (NDAS) looks like. We have a small grant from the Independent Social Research Foundation. The researchers are all neurodivergent: Helen Kara, George Watts and Kate Fox.
We will be running a workshop at The Melting Pot, 15 Calton Road, in central Edinburgh, on Saturday 7 March from 1.30-4.30 pm. We will use creative approaches such as collage, poetry, and drawing to generate conversations about neurodiversity affirming spaces. You don't need any special knowledge or creative skills, just your own perspective. All materials are provided, also hot drinks and biscuits, and a quiet space. Everything is flexible: you can take breaks whenever you need to and all activities are completely optional.
What we will do afterwards
We won’t record the workshop but we will take notes. Anything you share may become part of our research data. We will anonymise everything and might include quotes or artwork in our writing. We will share anything we want to use before we publish it, and you can withdraw permission then if you wish. You can also ask us to withdraw all your data from the project at any time up to 9 am on Monday 9 March (the day we start our analytic work).
What’s in it for you
We will give you £50 in vouchers of your choice. You must participate in most of the workshop to be eligible for the vouchers.
We aim to make the workshop accessible and enjoyable. Please ask questions whenever you need to, before, during, or after the workshop.
