Mango Picnic
To celebrate GirlDreamer’s 10th anniversary, we’re co-hosting a mango picnic centred around joy, community, culture, softness, and of course… mangoes!
The idea has actually been five years in the making.
Back in 2021, during an online GirlDreamer programme in the middle of the pandemic, one GirlDreamer casually mentioned in her introduction that her country had “the best mangoes.”
What followed was a very passionate debate between strangers across the diaspora about whose homeland truly produces the superior mango.
Ever since then, we’ve joked about one day settling the debate properly.
So, the time has finally come...
But outside of the fun, mangoes hold something much deeper for many of us. They remind us of childhood summers, family kitchens, corner shops, aunties cutting fruit over the sink, letting the juice of the mango drip down your arm, and the sheer excitement of finally knowing mango season "back home" was arriving in the UK.
They taste like memory. Like home. Like heritage.
To make this celebration even sweeter, we’re co-hosting with the incredible Home Girls Unite — an organisation supporting eldest daughters that has been growing alongside us over the past five years. As one of our first Dream Fund recipients, an aligned community organisation and an embodiment of shared values - it’s set to be a very special and wholesome afternoon.
So, whether you’re part of the GirlDreamer community, the Home Girls Unite community, or both — we’d love for you to join us!
Wear yellow, orange, green, red or gold if you’d like (a little ode to the mango), bring a blanket if you can, and come ready for an afternoon of sweetness, connection, laughter and the official battle of the mangoes.
See you in the park 🥭
