3 Things Short Prose Conversation with Rick Barot
Hosted by Writer-ish on Substack with Darien Gee.
“3 Things: Short Prose Talks” is a free, live conversation where short prose authors talk about writing and the creative process. Each guest shares three things: a selection of short prose, a prompt, and a writing tip.
This 3 Things conversation is with Rick Barot, and we'll be talking about short prose, prose poems, and orchestrating truth.
Rick's most recent publications are a book of poems, Moving the Bones (Milkweed Editions, 2024) and a chapbook, The Emperor of the Cut Sleeve (Sixth Finch Books, 2025). His previous collection, The Galleons, was longlisted for the National Book Award. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including Poetry, The New Republic, and The New Yorker. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Stanford University. Rick lives in Tacoma, Washington and directs The Rainier Writing Workshop, the low-residency MFA program in creative writing at Pacific Lutheran University.
