About Event

Mauka Mauka, the viral Indian television advertisement campaign created to promote Star Sports’ broadcast of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, won the hearts of millions of cricket fans worldwide even if we didn’t win the Cup.

Conceptualised by the then creative director at Star Sports, Mr. Mustafa Rangwala, it became the most viewed ad campaign of 2015, with over 30 million views! It depicted the labours of a Pakistani cricket fan and the box of firecrackers he’d been lugging around for 20 years, waiting for an opportunity to celebrate a World Cup win over India.

The witty campaign with the phrase ‘Mauka Mauka’ took the internet by storm across all platforms and made its way into the Indian public imagination, livening conversations on social media and the streets. It even caught the attention of the Indian cricket team, who would sing it on the team bus and was recognized by many top cricketers.

In this session, Mr. Mustafa himself will share his experience and the story behind the mammoth success of the Mauka campaign and will also give us an insight into the world of sports marketing.

About the Speaker

Mustafa Rangwala is an advertising consultant by profession and an avid sport and cricket enthusiast by nature.

At Star Sports, as the creative director, he was in charge of all cricket, racket sports marketing alongside had responsibilities for the Star sports branding. He has also held the position of a creative director at Ogilvy and at MullenLowe group where he handled the creative mandate for Asian Paints, Burger King, knorr, J.S.W. Steel, M.P. Birla and many other big names. During the course of his career so far Mr. Rangwala has also authored and conceptualized campaigns like ‘Mauka’, ‘My debut match’ and many more such incredibly successful campaigns that we have all seen and loved.
