About Event

We run a 5k, then fund a patient on Watsi!

Watsi is a nonprofit that funds healthcare for people who can't afford it. Every dollar, literally 100% of what we donate, goes directly to a patient, and you can see exactly who you helped.

Meet Patrick

Patrick's story

Patrick is a three-year-old from Tanzania, born with clubfoot on both feet. It makes shoes hard to wear and long walks hard to finish without falling — but by every account he's still the most energetic kid in the room. He lives with his father, a bajaji driver raising Patrick and his younger sister, who took him to Morogoro Hospital and got him referred to a specialized center for treatment. The repair costs $1,171. More than half of it has already been raised. 100% of the funds go to fund the patient care. Afterward, his feet straighten and he gets to run around like a three-year-old should.

His dad said something I can't stop thinking about: "hope has found us."

That's the finish line that actually matters. By the end of the morning, we're funding Patrick together.

The route

Meet at Domino Park (Kent Ave & S 4th) — the Bedford Av L is a 10-minute walk if you're coming from the city. We head north on the Kent Ave greenway with the skyline on our right, cut through Greenpoint, and finish at McCarren Park. Roughly 3.1 miles, flat the whole way.

The pace

Conversational. Seriously. Walk it, jog it, sprint it — nobody gets dropped and we regroup at the end. Coffee at McCarren after for anyone who can stick around.

Bring

Yourself, a friend, and good energy. We'll fund Patrick on the spot at McCarren.

No timing chip, no bib, no pressure. Just a good morning with good people doing something small that's real for someone else.

See you at Domino!

Can't make it? You can still chip in for Patrick.
