Welcome to The House of Fiends!
Join us for a relaxed evening of Prose (such as short stories) and Personal Essay readings with fellow writers and story lovers. Whether you’re an emerging writer looking to share your work, or a reader that just wants to meet local writers and hear their work, this is your space to connect with a small part of Toronto's creative community.
We’ll gather at our wonderful venue and share our stories in a relaxed, supportive environment. Bring your writing (Prose and Personal Essays) or just come to listen and meet other creatives.
The plan is to keep it casual, with the primary focus being to foster connection and encourage writers to step out of their shells. Please do not provide criticism, constructive or otherwise, unless the reader specifically requests it.
Schedule & Logistics
Readers sign up to our reading schedule upon arrival to share their piece
5–7 minute readings, with breaks in between sets of readings to mingle
Open to both Writers and Listeners, though participation is optional and you can simply attend to support anyone reading their work!
Important Reminders
Seating: Bring a blanket or something to sit on 🪑. Limited chairs will also be available.
Food & Drink: Snacks 🥨 and Refreshments 🥤 will be provided as part of the event.
Reading Signup: Let organizers know your piece 📜 before going up to read.
Recording Notice: Photography & video recording 📸 will take place. Attendance implies consent to be included in photos or video.
Our Host
New Systems is a creative collective based in Toronto that brings together technologists, artists, and curious makers to explore what’s possible when disciplines intersect.
Their physical space downtown, New Stadium, is designed to improve how people learn and make new things. It focuses on two key processes: how quickly individuals or groups can gain knowledge, and how effectively they can turn that knowledge into real-world outcomes.
