The Making of Man - a seminar with Mustafa Briggs
SESSION TWO
THE MAKING OF MAN
Eight Enemies · Seven Seasons · Six Examples · Five Desires · Four Powers · Three Systems · Two Rules · One Representative
A live seminar with Mustafa Briggs Sunday 9 August · 8pm GMT Two hours, live · Recording included
In the first session we laid the foundations.
We covered the Seven Seasons, the seven stages of a man's life, recognised independently by the sages of antiquity and confirmed through revelation. The Six Examples, the men the Qur'an hands us to pattern ourselves on. And the Five Desires, the five things that distract, corrupt and finally enslave a man, all named together, in the order a man actually meets them, in a single verse.
Two hours was not enough. There was simply too much of it.
That session was the diagnosis and the map. This one is the practical half, and it begins with something I found last.
IN THIS SESSION
THE EIGHT ENEMIES
A supplication the Prophet ﷺ made so often that the boy who served him memorised it. Eight things, named, and refuge sought from every one. Not poverty. Not obscurity. Not failure. Eight specific conditions, and every one of them is a man rendered unable to act.
And seven of the eight are inside you. The eighth is the one you have been told to blame, and it comes last, because it is a consequence of the other seven.
THE FOUR POWERS
The four things every man was sent to build, revealed to a prophet and granted to a king, and forming the whole of his mulk: his dominion. We take each one in turn and ask seven questions of it, including the one nobody asks: what kind of man does its absence make you?
THE THREE SYSTEMS
Three figures the Qur'an names together, in the same breath, three times, and each of them is a system: the state, the apparatus, and the capitalist economy. What is actually being done to men, by whom, and why it arrives at the exact age each thing is due. And where the manosphere itself came from.
THE TWO RULES
The two commands given to a prophet-king to govern everything entrusted to him. And they are the answer to the systems, not an escape from them.
THE ONE REPRESENTATIVE
The Qur'anic vision of the human being as Allah's khalīfa on earth. The man who held all four powers at their absolute ceiling, and the man who was offered more than that and put it down. And the one word he chose instead.
YOU WILL LEAVE WITH
Eight names for what is actually stopping you, and a thirty-second audit you can run on yourself any morning
A clear reading of which of the four powers you have built and which you have neglected
The ability to tell a real power from its counterfeit, in yourself and in what is being sold to you
An understanding of what is structurally working against you, and why blaming the wrong thing has kept men stuck for a generation
Two rules you can apply to every one of the four, from tomorrow
And a practical daily rule: four hours no occupation may take
