Journocoders: Analysing election data with Polars
This month we'll be learning how to analyse election data with Polars.
Polars is a Python library for data analysis that's been steadily gaining popularity over the past few years. You may have used Pandas before — the best-known Python data analysis library. Not only is Polars faster, and can better deal with large datasets, but some people find it more intuitive and easier-to-use to use, too.
In this session we'll be following a tutorial written by FT journalists that uses UK election results data to cover all the fundamentals of analysing data with Polars. That includes loading and saving data, selecting columns, filtering rows, sorting, creating new columns, summarisations, and joining datasets together.
All of our events are suitable for beginners, and no programming experience is required. Bring a laptop along as this a practical, hands-on workshop. Please also sign up for a Dropbox account if you don't already have one so you can edit the shared doc we'll be using during the event.
