Democracy isn't decided on election day, it's decided in the five years after it. As citizens, we live out our democracy in the reality we experience when we leave our homes in the morning for work... it's in the potholes that don't get fixed, the budgets that are left unspent, and the coalitions that collapse before they've governed a single term or delivered anything to our communities.
Convened by Defend Our Democracy, in partnership with the Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office (CPLO), Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Johannesburg Crisis Alliance and Campaign for Digital Ethics (C.O.D.E), BEYOND THE X brings together South Africa's sharpest civil society, business, academic and grassroots voices for one honest, non-partisan conversation with you and I, the citizens: not on who should win, not on who you should vote for, but askinng what happens the morning after 4th Nov, and whether we as citizens are actually ready for it.
