What People Can Do: A Skills-Based Approach to Building Teams

​Part of Twin Cities Startup Week 2026, September 14–18.

​What if we got better at identifying what people can actually do, rather than relying on degrees, job titles, and traditional credentials to tell us?

​Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber are bringing their Skills-Based Talent Accelerator work to TCSW, with a particular focus on Minnesota’s technology workforce. Skills-Based Talent Facilitator Allen Mavis will share practical ways growing companies can define the skills they actually need, recognize capable people they might otherwise overlook, and use a skills-based approach to hire, develop, and retain talent as their needs change.

​It’s also a fitting way to kick off the Great Minnesota Give Back Hack, a day built around recognizing the skills people already have and putting them to work where they can make a difference.
