"The New Leisure Class" with Ben Landau-Taylor

Join The Students to meet fellow fans of the channel and hear a lecture from Ben Landau-Taylor, author of "Why the New Leisure Class Enjoys Activism and Philanthropy".

Wealthy aristocrats once demonstrated their power and status by entering government, making war, and funding churches and artists, as Thorstein Veblen famously described in "The Theory of the Leisure Class". Though the outward forms have changed, they still do the same today. This talk will cover how today's activist ideology fills the necessary social functions which the aristocratic ideology once filled.
