About Our Speaker
For Dr. Sheldon Jordan, neurology has existed at the intersection of science and art. His journey began in 1968, when his love of drama and the arts collided with a required science course and opened the door to working with children and adults living with autism and severe mental illness. That experience sparked a lifelong conviction: there was far more to understand about the brain, and the tools to change lives were already within reach.
Today, Dr. Jordan is a board-certified neurologist, retired Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at UCLA and USC, and Chief Investigator of The Regenesis Project. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and helped pioneer programs spanning neuroimaging, clinical neurophysiology, interventional neurology, healthy aging, and regenerative medicine. He has also served as a neurological consultant to elite athletes and professional sports organizations.
“Almost every day, I see a miracle,” he says. He has watched patients rise from wheelchairs and return to the tennis court, and seen individuals once confined by neurological illness reclaim movement, music, and independence. After more than five decades, every week remains an adventure, an opportunity to reinvent what is possible, move the field forward, and make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
Featured Topic
The Brain-Muscle Connection: Understanding Sarcopenia and Healthy Aging
What about you? Is your tennis groundstroke not as powerful as it once was? Does the golf ball no longer travel quite as far off the tee? Is it possible that, beginning as early as your twenties, time has been quietly changing the conversation between your brain, nerves, and muscles?
A legendary athlete can still dominate late in a career, yet the explosive power that once made every movement effortless may already be fading. These subtle changes could be among the earliest clues that aging is altering the connection between the brain, nerves, and muscles, occurring long before visible muscle loss occurs. Dr. Jordan invites the audience into a new era of understanding sarcopenia, focused on recognizing its earliest signals and exploring how targeted interventions may help preserve performance, independence, and longevity.
Special Guest Experience
Precision Performance Testing with VALD Technology
Guests will have the opportunity to complete a quick hand-grip strength assessment using VALD technology, offering a simple snapshot of strength, resilience, and left-to-right differences - functional markers relevant to sarcopenia and healthy aging. For reference, DEXA tells you how much muscle you have; VALD helps show how well that muscle is actually performing.
Raffle Experience
10 guests will each receive a 30-minute private session with Dr. Lider Chan for a comprehensive performance assessment. The session will combine grip-strength and countermovement-jump testing, followed by a review of multiple data points including strength, muscle power, rate of force development, balance/stability, landing control, and left-right asymmetries.
Together, these measurements provide a fuller picture of physical performance and can help identify early functional changes associated with sarcopenia. Think of it as going beyond muscle quantity on a DEXA scan to look more closely at muscle function, power, and neuromuscular performance.
Past Featured Speakers:
Previous featured speakers in The Longevity Series at Gravitas include Dr. Chris Renna, Jackie Iversen, Dr. Darshan Shah, and Dr. Duncan Ross.
Whether your interests lie in longevity, preventative medicine, biotechnology, human performance, or health innovation, we look forward to welcoming you for an evening of meaningful conversation, practical insight, and connection with a thoughtful community committed to living well and thriving longer, at Gravitas.
