Al Engelberg is widely regarded as the "legal father" of generic drugs — one of the key architects of the modern generic drug industry. A patent attorney, policy advocate, author, and philanthropist, his work transformed access to prescription medicines nationwide.
He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University (1961) and a J.D. from NYU School of Law (1965), and has worked as a patent examiner, patent agent, Justice Department trial lawyer, and IP attorney throughout his career.
