Who Gets to Fund the Future? Power, Proximity & the Politics of Resourcing

​A funder dialogue on shifting resources and power toward grassroots movements, examining the roles of Global South-led funding infrastructure and solidarity-based philanthropy amid the rise of far-right forces

Far-right forces are organizing across borders, reshaping political and economic systems while attacking land, food systems, rights, democracy and climate justice. At the same time, grassroots movements across the Global South have long been building alternatives, defending territories, strengthening communities and advancing pathways toward a more just future.

​This morning gathering will bring together movement leaders, Global South-led funding networks and popular finance initiatives, movement-aligned funders, and philanthropic actors for a participatory conversation about how resources and power can move differently in this context.

​Rather than a conventional panel, the gathering will create space for short provocations, open discussion, questions and connection. Together, we will explore the role that Global South-led funding infrastructure and solidarity-based philanthropy can play in resourcing movements with greater trust, proximity and solidarity — and ask what needs to change in funding practices, relationships and decision-making to become more responsive and useful to those building and defending alternatives on the ground.
