What Communities Need: A Discussion With Lower Haight Local

​Hi! I’m Joel, the editor of Lower Haight Local. I’m interested in answering the question: what do communities need, and how can we provide it directly, together?

​In this discussion, we’ll talk about what we need in Lower Haight (or Hayes Valley), and how we can use our voices/ platforms/ resources to provide it.

​Current plan: (1) intros (“get to know a neighbor!”) (2) brainstorm about what we need as a community (affordable rent, connection, support) (3) how we can use the magazine / network to promote and provide these things.

​I want everyone to walk away from this discussion with one small thing that they will do with/for their neighbors. (Connecting two neighbors together, hosting something, writing something for the magazine, etc). By doing this together, we can provide the permission framework to just do these things :)

​For me, the magazine has been a platform to host dating events, share art, and connect people in the neighborhood. You can write for the magazine! This event is a great way to learn more about the mission and get connected to start writing.
