VFP October: Can Shit Posting Save Us?
Can Shit Posting Save Us?
An evening to examine the role comedy plays in how we talk politics with each other online.
What to expect?
A short panel to set the tone of the night with a comedian, digital strategist, and shit-poster. (Panelists will be announced soon)
Small break out groups to discuss our personal interactions with political comedy online.
Carry our convo into a happy hour with drinks!
Panelists:
Gabriella Zutrau is a Digital Strategy Advisor to campaigns and organizations, with expertise in organic social media and a background in community organizing. She also runs Weird LLC, an agency that helps clients do what works online right now.
In a very different lane, Gabbi is also a content creator (@extremelyonlinefriend) and a dogfluencer (@ednatherunt). In addition, Gabbi and her sister created viral RFK Jr. troll account @thediarrheaparasite.
Jack Reichert is a comedian specializing in political absurdism with an upcoming show called Are We Fucked?, a joint venture between Sony and Adam McKay’s Yellow Dot Studios.
Jacqueline Blizzard is a stand-up comedian and improviser in NYC! You can see her performing stand-up at venues including Union Hall, The Bell House, Sesh, UCB and Bushwick Comedy Club! She was member of UCB’s Lloyd team Uncle Tough and continues to improvise with her indie team Blumpkin! She also plays Heather Cummings on the web series Bushwick News Network, which she created alongside her best friend, Bini Yamin, and her brother, Dean Blizzard. Her Instagram is @stinkyweirdgirl, but she’s actually a very nice-smelling, normal girl.
More about the topic:
A lot of our political conversation now happens passively: sending memes and satire to friends, family, and group chats.
The first step of authoritarianism is making people numb, so staying engaged matters, even if it starts with an eye roll.
Laughter re-energizes people and keeps them paying attention.
About VFP:
We gather a curated group of people like you who are shaping the left culture and politics online, thinkers, organizers, and creators into the same room to work through hard questions together.
