Rice: A Global History and Tasting Dinner
The story of rice is the story of the world, a lens through which to examine the history of labor, colonialism, gender and race politics, and survival.
In this special tasting dinner and class, come learn about how rice (and grasses) shaped our world, and how heritage grains endangered by colonialism can be used for food medicine, particularly managing blood sugar, blood pressure, and heart health, and healing our relationship to the Earth.
We will source our manoomin (wild rice) and rice from BIPOC-owned heritage rice growers, like Indigenous Food Labs, Black-owned Rollen’s Raw Grains, Thai Heirloom, Koda Farms, and Amar Khamar.
